Studiojux.org’s first project is the factory Be Suited. This factory, that produces clothes for a.i. fair + eco clothing brand studio JUX in Amsterdam, is located in the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu. The factory deliberately choose this location, in order to create jobs in one of the poorest countries in the world. Be Suited currently has twenty employees, including thirteen tailors – which the factory educates itself.
Currently, Studio JUX is full owner of the factory, so it can easily implement fair labour standards, values, and work according to Western quality standards. The company is also a member of the Fair Wear Foundation, an independent auditor of labour circumstances. Out of considerations of empowerment, Studio JUX is slowly pulling out of its factory ownership, so it can become its own full and legal owner. Clearly, this comes with a number of challenges, mainly pertaining to the factory’s sustainability and continuity. Studiojux.org is here to help Be Suited overcome these thresholds.
